In the original film, Ridley Scott (Director) cleverly films the creature from indirect angles and close-ups, avoiding the cliché look of someone clearly in a costume.

However, the creature is in fact performed by a man in a rubber suit.

In H.R. Giger's original illustrations, the creature had eyes, but for the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes.

The result is the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that we know today.
